When is the 2026 autumn break?

The autumn break in Flen is 26–30 October 2026, Monday to Friday. That is week 44. Monday 26 October is the first day off, Friday 30 October the last.

Activities in Flen, day by day

Monday 26 October. Meet the culture school at Flen library, 11:00–15:00, for theatre, crafts and music. Play at Piggelinhallen, 12:00–14:00, is for ages 6–12 and families. Bettna school’s gym hosts a dance and circus workshop, 17:00–19:00.

Tuesday 27 October. Spooky maker workshop at KomTek, Bildningscentrum Stenhammar, 10:00–15:00. The musical Spara & Slösa runs in the auditorium, 16:00–17:00, for ages five and up. Register for the musical in advance. The ice disco at GB-hallen runs 16:00–19:00. Skates and helmets are available to borrow; helmets must be worn on the ice.

Wednesday 28 October. Gymnastics at Hälleforsnäs sports hall, 12:00–14:00, welcomes all ages; children under 13 need an accompanying adult. Flen library hosts a creative workshop with Tomas and Tove, 13:00–15:00.

Thursday 29 October. Games and crafts at Inspirea, 13:00–15:00. The ghost walk through Kreativa stråket at Stenhammarskolan runs 17:00–19:00 for ages 6–12 accompanied by a guardian. Föreningsgården in Vadsbro screens Hopper och murmeldjurets hemligheter at 18:00 and I swear at 20:00, at SEK 50 per film.

All week. Flen library hosts story time Monday–Friday, 12:30–13:00, for ages three and up. There is also a quiz trail, reading bingo and a shared jigsaw puzzle during the week.

Free activities during the autumn break

Fritidsbanken at Hammarvallen lends reused sports and outdoor equipment free of charge. The loan lasts two weeks. Open Wednesday and Thursday 16:00–18:00; during the break that is Wednesday 28 and Thursday 29 October.

At the jazz concert on Friday 30 October at 19:30, adults pay SEK 100 and under-18s and culture-school pupils get in free. Homemade cakes are included.

Indoors if it rains

A good start is the pool. A single visit with sauna costs SEK 75 for an adult, SEK 40 for ages 7–17 and SEK 20 for ages 0–6. A family ticket, two adults and at most four children or young people up to 17, costs SEK 225. A visit is two hours. The desk closes 30 minutes before swimming ends. In Hälleforsnäs the foundry museum is open Thursday–Friday 10:00–16:00 and Saturday 11:00–15:00. During the school week that is Thursday 29 and Friday 30 October. The tourist office sells museum admission.

The heritage tramway in Malmköping runs Halloween sessions with tickets the weekend before and the Saturday after the break, not as an ordinary weekday outing during the week.

Outdoors and nature

Crisp air and yellow leaves go a long way. The municipality has reserves with mushrooms and berries in autumn.

Jaktstuguskogen, south of Sparreholm, is Södermanland’s oldest nature reserve, created in 1919. Lake Jaktstugusjön sits in the middle of the forest. A loop is about 2.5 kilometres. Parking is a small lay-by on road 53, about 700 metres south of the roundabout where roads 57 and 53 meet. Fires, camping and dogs off the lead are not allowed in the reserve.

Åtorpskogen is about 1.7 kilometres north-west of Flen town, conifer forest within walking distance of the centre. Autumn is good for funnel chanterelles and black trumpet mushrooms.

Malmköping nature reserve is old forest with the Sörmlandsleden trail running through it, lovely in summer and autumn when there are mushrooms and berries.

Brunnstaåsen in Bettna has bilberry shrubs in autumn.

Rosmossen lies about 6 kilometres north-east of Hälleforsnäs, on the border with Eskilstuna. The Sörmlandsleden passes through. There is no car park at the reserve, so plan for a walk.

Around Lake Dunkern, outside Malmköping, there is a route of about 17 kilometres. A good start is Dunker church, towards Stjärnhov.

For younger children

The musical on Tuesday 27 October is the week’s big stage moment for children from five years. The performance starts at 16:00 at Stenhammarskolan (Bildningscentrum Stenhammar). Register on the bank’s page.

The pool has a jungle pool for ages 0–8, maximum depth 28 centimetres and water at 31 degrees. The teaching pool is 30 degrees. Children under 12 swim with a water-confident adult over 18 who pays admission, at most three children per adult. Ages 0–6 stay within arm’s reach. Babies in nappies need a swim nappy. On Mondays and Wednesdays 18:00–19:00 the small pool is booked for Plask & Lek.

For teenagers

The youth centres in Flen, Malmköping and Hälleforsnäs welcome young people from year 6 up to age 20. Flen: Stenhammarskolan, Storgatan 19B, 0157-43 09 81. Malmköping: Skolgatan 1, 0157-43 09 85. Fritidsbanken on Wednesday and Thursday 16:00–18:00 is an easy way to try a sport without buying kit.

Halloween in Flen

Alongside the ghost walk in Flen on 29 October, there is Halloween at the heritage tramway in Malmköping. The Halloween tramway runs Friday 23 October 19:00–22:00 and Saturday 24 October 15:00–21:00, the weekend before the break. Adult tickets SEK 190, children aged 6–15 SEK 90. Saturday departures from 15:36 to 17:42 suit children who scare easily. The tramway café serves hot dogs and hamburgers. Advance tickets are recommended.

Food and cafés

Coffee and ice cream are sold in the pool café room. Homemade cakes are included at the jazz evening on Friday 30 October.
